Where to Buy

This entry in the Drake sisters series takes a bit of a step back from the high danger atmosphere of international crime syndicates that pervaded much of the previous book. While it doesn't fully return to the lighthearted sweetness of the first two books, it does manage to strike more of a balance between the joy of two people finally admitting to themselves and to each other how much they love one another, and the dangers posed by those who seek to murder either one or both of them for reasons unknown. Ms. Feehan does a great job with spinning the mystery of who exactly is after Libby and Tyson until the very end of the book, successfully directing attention in other directions so that the truth, when revealed, plays out as a nice twist on how it had seemed things were going to turn out. While there are some hints along the way as to the would-be killer's identity, still it comes as something of a surprise when that identity is finally revealed.

In addition to a nicely woven mystery story, Ms. Feehan also amply displays her talents at bringing characters to life. Through her writing, the reader is able to truly feel Libby's shyness and uncertainty at opening her heart to Tyson, as well as feeling Tyson's confusion as he tries to deal with unfamiliar emotions, and his devastation when events bring him emotionally to his knees to the extent that even his staggering intellect deserts him and leaves him with few remaining anchors to cling to. Nowhere are the various characters' emotions and thoughts simply described -- always we are taken right inside their heads to feel along with them what they are feeling, and it creates an immersive reading experience that not all authors can manage.

All in all, a great addition to the series, and one of the best books so far in it. Definitely recommended both for fans of Ms. Feehan's, as well as for those who enjoy strong characterizations woven through an intriguing mystery, spiced up with a dash of hot sex now and then.
